Introducing Hue Disco, a third-party mobile app that designed exclusively for Philips Hue smart lighting system. This app brings brand new experiences to your existing hue (smart lights) system with no additional hardware required.

ABOUT HUE DISCO

This is a product redesign project of Hue Disco, an iOS/Android app that changes Philips Hue lighting based on music heard on the microphone. In this project, I reevaluated target audiences and current users’ feedback. The goal is to redesigned UI and user flow that increases potential user groups and enhances user experience.

CORE FEATURES

HUE Experience - Made for anyone, and for everyday use. Take your music listening experience into a whole new level with dynamic lighting that matches your beat. Choose your experiences and the app will automatic streams music and controls your lights that fit with the mood (via Spotify playlist search).
HUE DJ - For serious DJ / EDM lovers. Take full control of your smart lights at parties. Professional tools such as AUTO BPM for automatic beat matching (SYNC) and DROP mode for manual strobe lights control is provided more maximum control over lightings. For better effects transition, you can preset and save lighting effects and live switching these effects during performing.

PROTOTYPING PROCESS

The following are some key factors that take into account during prototyping. First, to design a UI that is easy to navigate. The high-fidelity prototype document showcases resigned user-flows of three features of this app (Hue Experience, Hue DJ, and effect setting), whereby statistic (user test), is more usable than the original app. The second is to improve the visual design that meets the current design trend. This material UI design focuses on visual hierarchy and simplicity. Also, a dark mode is added because this app is most likely be used in dark environment.
